This interactive workshop will integrate information based on current research to enhance our understanding of the brain and how it affects behavior and learning. It will cover the Three Bs – the Brain, BrainWise (Dr. Patricia Gorman-Barry) and Brain Rules (John Medina). We will discuss the anatomy & function of the brain, Wizard and Lizard, epigenetics, how the brain works according to the Brain Rules for Baby, how children learn, the role of early life experiences and emotions in the thinking and learning process, why relationships matter, what the brain needs and how enrichment affects the brain but also debunk some brain myths. The goal is to provide theory and practice with successful tips and techniques to make a difference in the development of children.

The Teller Early Childhood Council provides guidance to the administration of the Child Find programs and the Colorado Preschool Program funding for the school districts of Teller County. The Child Find program consists of the screening and evaluation programs in place to identify children from birth through age 5 who have a disability so that they may receive early intervention. The Colorado Preschool Program provides funding for the preschool education of three and four year old children who are "at risk" of having delays in their development. The general public is welcome at the meetings, which occur six times during the school year. Parents of children and professionals who work with children aged 0 to 5 years old are encouraged to attend, as well as representatives from the business community.

Community Preschool Development Screening

Children do better in school when they are ready to learn. We would like to help you see how your child is developing. We are offering a free screening session (approximately 2 hours in length) for children 3 through 5 years of age who have not yet entered kindergarten. The screening will cover the following areas: Speech and Language, Motor (movement), Academic Readiness Skills and Social Skills. You will receive information regarding your child's development as well as free helpful handouts. Who: Age 3 to 5 year-old children living in our community who have not yet entered Kindergarten Where: Gateway Elementary in Woodland Park. When: Friday, February 25th. Time: 8:OO AM - 12:00 PM. Please call Teresa Zboralski at District Child Find, 686-2050, to make an appointment. Screening appointments are limited, so please call early to reserve a time that is best for you. * If you wish to have your child screened at any time other than February 25th please call as well. 12th Annual KIDSFEST

Please mark your calendars - Saturday, April 23rd Kidsfest is coming!

It will be at the Ute Pass Cultural Center from 9-noon. This event is a platform for all childhood related organizations and non-profits to have the opportunity to connect families with available services and programs in our community. Our focus for this event is early learning, health, safety, and prevention. During the event we will have a music or dance performance, Inspector Magic storytelling show, carnival games with prizes, our popular discovery zone, and at your booths will be hands-on learning activities for the children to participate in. If you are looking to have a booth this year it is required your organization serves early childhood, non-profits have priority and you are required to have an activity or game.
